Nimat and Bashir Badawi

Syria (b.1963)

Nimat Badawi lives and works in Aleppo and is trained  in icon restorations and fresco painting. In 1988 he obtained his BA in Fine Arts from Aleppo University and went on to study Byzantine Icons and restorations in Rome in 2000.  His work is greatly influenced by the Byzantine and Roman icon art styles and he is also inspired by daily life in Syria, often painting the  everyday scenes around him with emphasis on mothers and children. Some of his work illustrates the architecture of old Aleppo, with its cobblestone alleys.

In 2018 alongside his brother Bashir Badawi, they were commissioned to paint a fresco painting in the Dome of the Syrian Catholic Cathedral in Aleppo. His work features in private collections around the Middle East, Europe and the U.S.A.
