Abdullatif Al Smoudi

Syria (19482005)

Abdullatif Al Smoudi was best known for his ability to meld Islamic motifs and symbols together with abstraction, often depicting Islamic architectural forms including towers and domes throughout  his work. He resided in Sharjah until his death in 2005, and was one of the founding members of the Emirates Fine Arts Society. 

His exhibition history is vast, with work exhibited at the Ministry of Culture in Syria, the Louvre, Paris, and the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation. He was also included in various biennales, including the Sharjah Biennale and the Cairo Biennale, along with over 60 solo and group shows worldwide, most notably a retrospective at the Sharjah Art Museum.
