Saoud Abdallah

Syria (b.1976)

Saoud Abdallah graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University. He obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2005 and completed his postgraduate diploma in 2006.

In his practice, Abdallah reduces lines and shapes, embodying a minimalist aesthetic. The underlying theme of his body of work centers on the idea of diminishing and absence through the seated female figures that occupy his canvases. He often uses sand as a medium to create his work.

His artworks bear resemblances to Oriental Art, with hints of Chinese and Japanese influences in their design. They also incorporate local elements, including traditional female figures or women engaged in daily activities like carrying burdens or heavy loads.

His work has been featured in exhibitions in Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait and Italy.
