● Artist

Adel Rahoumi

Adel Rahoumi is an Iraqi/Egyptian contemporary artist who spent the majority of his adult life in the United States. He left to obtain his master’s degree in Graphic Design from the California State University, and returned to Egypt 30 years later only to  be shocked by the drastic changes in his hometown’s cultural fabric. In essence, this shock informed his artworks - especially the nostalgia he felt for his once beloved cosmopolitan city of Alexandria, where he grew up. His love for Alexandria is evident throughout his oeuvre - his vibrant artworks are infused with Alexandria’s past - its heritage, melting pot of cultures, and decline of its ‘golden age’ and former identity. Rahoumi’s work utilises symbols of Pharaonic, Sumerian, and Greek arts, as well as Islamic calligraphy.
