● Artist

Mohamed Melehi

Mohamed Melehi is considered a pioneering force in Moroccan Modernism due to his contributions to the post colonial Moroccan art scene. Rather than mimic Western aesthetics he was exposed to during his time abroad in Rome, Paris, and New York, he took much of his inspiration from his own cultural heritage. His use of bold, vibrant colors and the wave motif that has dominated his body of work since the 1960’s are both inspired by cultural and historical references to the arts, crafts, and traditions of Moroccan Berber heritage.
