Ahmed Sabri

Ahmed Sabri was one of the first generation of modern artists in Egypt. In 1910, he began his studies at the Fine Arts School, created by Price Youssef Kamal, from which he graduated in 1914. Soonafter, he moved to Paris to further his artistic pursuits at the Academie de La Grande Chaumiere, and Academie Julian. Upon his return to Egypt, he continued working as both illustrator, and artist when he earned a scholarship to return back to  Paris to further his training. His most notable artwork “The Nun” was exhibited at the Grand Palais in 1929, and won the Prix d’honneur by the French Arts Society.

Gratus Collection

The Gratus Collection is Egypt and Dubai based. It retraces highlights of Egypt’s modern history through to the contemporary era. Featuring works from leading pioneers such as Mahmoud Said and Hamed Abdalla to later figures such as Chant Avedissian - the collection serves as a unique repository for the progression of Egyptian art from the 20th century into the 21st.
